Drops of Jupiter in Her Hair

“Now she’s back in the atmosphere…”
You may know the song by the group, “Train”.  It’s a fine piece of poetry that suits this blog well as I’ve not published for nigh on six months.

It also has a line, that as a photographer I’m enamoured with, “Did you dance along the light of day…”

So no, the blog hasn’t been busy the past few months, and mostly because your scribe and his character set have been either busy on other things, or in the case of EE laid up with a bung knee, that in the end has had some surgery, and finally the pain has gone and now its some exercises, mostly walking, to bring  the episode to a conclusion.

So we have spent little time in the bush, and even less time working with bird photography.    And just as well, as many of the locations we normally would work at bereft of birds.  Like someone came with a big vacuum cleaner and scooped them all up.

Followers of the blog from early days, may recall  that I usually re-jig the web page during the end of the year break and move in a slightly different direction for the new year.

Haven’t figured it out in detail yet, but after a bit of introspection, I decided to pay the hosting and naming rights for 2026, so figured I should at least attempt to get some of my money’s worth.

Blogs of this sort seem to become a little like dinosaours, overwhemed by the next new tech thing. Several I’ve followed over the years are now either defunct, closed, or just a mere shadow of their former glory.

So,  watch this space, as they used to say.

I’m thinking that one photo and a few words or a few photos and less words might be the direction.
Also, I’m including a link to my Flickr site as that has regular new work featured and it will show up at the bottom of the blog as a clickable presentation.

To everyone how has stuck with the blog, and those who have been recent viewers, Thanks.   I appeciate your comments.

I hope the festive season be one of joy and peace and that 2026 be the year for great photo opportunities for you.

  1. Great to see you back in action David!

These days, blogs are fast becoming relics of the digital sphere. I still maintained a sparsely updated blog too, and can resonate with your sentiments.

Keep up the good work and what works for you and your rhythm. And all the best for EE’s knee’s full recovery.

Best Regards for the New Year!

    1. Hi Jeremy, Thanks for the comment. Like all creative work, writing can sometimes just slip down the list of priotities. And as we’ve been pretty much housebound, there has been little impetus or need to share the latest happenings.

Hope that festive season was a fine time of family and friends and that 2026 brings you many photo opportunities

  2. So good to see you back in the blogging world again my friend, and yes just as our birds decrease so does the interest in our blog posts as the busy world gets busier and more distracted from the simple delights of our beautiful surroundings. Glad to read that EE is fully recovered, and yes your prescience and always amazing posts were missed. My wife and I hope you and yours had an enjoyable Christmas with family, as we look into another new year of new beginnings and new seasons. The absence of birds of migratory birds is of great concern, thankfully my locals keep producing each year and continue to bring them to our birdbaths for training. All the best for the new year !

  3. Hello Ashley, the lack of birds in general in our area is a bit of a concern. I don’t know about the migratory waders as we’ve not been anywhere since their return.

Thanks for your support and best wishes for a wonderful enriching 2026

  4. Nice to see this arrive in my inbox, David! I look forward to further instalments!

Good to know that EE is back to walking again, may she have a swift and full recovery!

Not that I have been out very much or very far, but there does seem to be very few birds around. I may try Glen Orden later in the week, although from what I am hearing in the ‘hood, there is not many birds around.

Wishing you both good light and steady hands with all the very best for the coming year!

(Now I find out if your site remembers me and posts my comment! Probably not as I am temporally using a different PC!)

  5. G’day Dave,

EE does seem to be on the mend, but both of us are well out of practice. Suprising how something so simple, like touch typing, or riding a bicycle needs constant practice to be able to achieve it with some skill. The number of birds we miss seeing, and the number I lock in the viewfinder is a bit one sided. John Wayne 0 Birds 20 🙂

I don’t think the pc log on is something WP follows, its the address that is somewhere stored in an address book I looked at it once, but no idea how to access it. Not that I want to anyway.

Hope all is well and 2026 gives you and yours some great opportunities

  6. Hello Eleanor,
    Welcome to 2026.
Always a challenge to sit down and write.
I’ve also been a bit less in the field this past few months, but hope that I can get into a bit of rhythm in both birding and posts.
