Talk about coincidences.
In early July 2021, my friend Nina had been at the WTP and found a family of Brolga playing with a tennis ball. Nina kindly let me put the story and the pictures on this blog and here is a link
Tennis Stars Be Prepared to be Amazed
It was just at the start of the Wimbledon Tennis.
+D4 turned up yesterday, and EE and I decided a trip to the WTP would be as good a location as we’d not been down for awile.
As we moved through the Western Lagoon area, we spotted a small number of Brogla opposite a pond on some lower ground.
And.
They were playing with a Tennis Ball Coincidence. And Wimbledon started this week. Coincidence?
The universe is far too complicated for me to understand.
The question is, “Is it the same tennis ball from 2021?” Or do the Brolga have Amazon ship in fresh ones each year?
And here’s how the game progressed.
In the end, as two of them seemed to argue, a third one came in and picked up the ball. “It’s my ball, and I’m taking it home.”
Enjoy

Uncanny!
Fascinating to see, David! I wonder if they will take out the Wimbledon Championship!
I would love to know how the ball got there!
A wonderful series of images and captions!

How the ball got there might be explained by washing up on the beach behind the bund where this action took place, (on the beach edge of Western Lagoons). But, who knows.
That the timing was the same as Nina’s encounter, didn’t dawn on me until I got home and looked at the dates.
Can’t be anything but co-incidence.
One of those days, when a little bit of sunhine would have been appreciated

A wonderful children’s story David, with real pictures instead of drawings. Yes certainly an unexpected coincidence that Brolga tennis continued to be in play on your visit again, coinciding with major tennis matches, you wonder if these birds are more in the loop of human activity than we realise. This is just more evidence of the Genius of Birds, and how they can play together just like us. A lovely lighthearted post David.

Hello Ashley,
And as we only went down on a whim as the grandson had turned up, its even stranger.
This game was about 1-2km down from Nina’s earlier encounter, but I suppose over the months, they could have moved the ball down along the marshes.
Sometimes we will never know what is really going on .

What a delightful experience, and your photographs of the match are absolutely charming.
Thank you for sharing the experience.

Hi Eleanor,
Sometimes the universe just seems to intersect at the same times.
St Ansel said, “Sometimes I arrive just when God’s ready to have somone click the shutter.”

Lovely to have been invited into their game day. I wonder if the tennis ball arrived by African or European swallow.
